Potatamoto

I have the webcomic links below the posts for a reason, but nonetheless I will point out this very telling recent strip from Scott Ramsoomair's (brilliant) VGCats: "Waiting".

Concerning Nintendo's general stance towards their fans, I am not qualified to comment (not being a Nintendo fan). However, their recent change of stance did not fail to attract even my interest.

Maybe it will work out, and their new target audience will support them for another two decades, like the last one did...

  1. People are missing the point. Nintendo does have a console for the "hardcore" and that's the DS. The shift towards a broader (new?) audience makes them more money than ever, so much so that they've gotten back on top for the first time since the NES days. Also, do keep in mind that it's their stance as a developer/publisher, not their work as hardware manufacturer that is the subject of hate by the "fans".
In any case, the Wii's pretty much a barren field if you're older than 12, but the DS is directly comparable to, say, the SNES in terms of quality and quantity of games.
And remember: if it prints money, it's good for Nintendo, but if it's not good for you, then there are other consoles out there.
